In the massive world of Sanctuary, you will find Silent Chests scattered throughout the five open-world regions and possibly in instanced areas such as Strongholds. But how do you open the Silent Chests in Diablo 4?

This guide explains how you can open Diablo 4's locked chests and how players can get their hands on more Whispering Keys, so let's jump in.

Update on 19 July 2023: We've updated this guide with the latest information on Silent Chests and how you can open them.

In Diablo 4 Season 1, Silent Chest loot drops have been significantly increased.

How To Open Silent Chests in Diablo 4

Silent chests are scattered throughout the open-world regions of Sanctuary in Diablo 4 and appear to be random spawns.

To open a Silent Chest in Diablo 4, you will need a Whispering Key. Players will have to carry the Whispering Keys in their inventory, so they are ready to open these locked chests once they discover one.

At the time of writing, it is unclear what the Silent Chests in Diablo 4 will reward players with. We suspect a range of items, from general gear loot to crafting materials. We will update this article once the exact rewards for opening a Silent Chest are known.

Diablo 4 Whispering Keys: How To Get More

The only known way to get more Whispering Keys is to head to the Purveyor of Curiosities (gambling vendor) in any of the game's town hubs. The first time you will encounter the Purveyor of Curiosities is around level 10, when you reach the central hub of the Fractured Peaks area, called Kyovashad.

You can purchase a Whispering Key for 20 Obols at the gambling vendor. There is no other known way to get Whispering Keys. To get more Obols, you can complete the following activities in Diablo 4:

  • Complete local events in the world of Sanctuary.
  • Cleanse Cursed Chests in Dungeons.
  • Cleanse Cursed Shrines in Dungeons.
  • Complete specific quests that have a Cache as a reward.

At the time of writing, it is unclear if spending Obols on Whispering Keys to open Silent Chests is worth it, as it all depends on the rewards inside. You might be better off gambling for a Legendary item in a specific slot, or Silent Chest rewards might be worth the trouble.

So there you have it, a way to open Silent Chests (Locked) in Diablo 4, how to get more Whispering Keys, and more. We will endeavor to update this article once Silent Chest loot rewards are revealed.
